Cit and Surf 3: Learn to surf at home
As the weather gets warmer, the attraction of learning to surf in English waters gets that little bit more exciting. Often overlooked, the U.K. has some of the best waves in the world when it comes to learning to surf. The long drive to the South west might be somewhat off-putting for the luxury traveller with limited free time, however we have just the solution for you; Mawgan Porth, Cornwall.
Located approximately one mile from Newquay Airport Mawgan Porth can only be described as the next big 'seascape'. Increasing flight routes from all over Europe are opening up the beach to an influx of luxury travel seekers, almost all of whom want to try their hand at surfing. ‘The bay’, as the locals call it, continues to maintain its effortless ‘beach chic’ style by not selling out - a major attraction for the understated ‘high-end’ crowd that drop in. If you want to learn to surf then look no further than King Surf. Founded by our good friend Pete Abel, who lives directly above the school on the beach, with his wife Ange and new born baby. Pete has become a local celebrity over the last ten years of running the surf school with an infectious enthusiasm for fun. He is the perfect example of a man who eats, sleeps and breathes surfing.
Pete has grown a team of surf instructors more more enjoyable to learn to surf with than anywhere. The guys have taught at the same spot for years and know the beach better than anyone, ensuring a safe and comfortable experience. They believe EVERYONE can surf. Former customers include a one legged marketing director, a paraplegic, England rugby players, and various TV personalities, all of whom enjoyed the passion of the surf school boss, and continue to return. They really do put the emphasis on enjoyment over anything else, so whether you’re 16 or 60 you’re guaranteed to have a good time.
