In Focus | Why the Guernsey Never Goes Out of Style
There are very few garments that can genuinely claim to have stood the test of time. The guernsey is one of them.
Long before fashion had seasons, before trend cycles shortened to the point of absurdity, the guernsey was doing its job quietly and brilliantly along the coastlines of Britain. Originally knitted by hand for fishermen working the cold waters off the Channel Islands, it was built for a life lived outdoors; dense, structured, warm enough to matter, and tough enough to last. What nobody could have predicted is how effortlessly it would travel from harbour wall to high street, from working boat to weekend wardrobe.
That's the thing about true style. It doesn't shout. It simply endures.

The Guernsey iconic: no branding, no fuss, no need to follow anyone else's lead. Just honest construction in a considered shape that flatters everybody and suits almost every occasion. Worn over a shirt with chinos for a Friday in the office, or thrown on over a swimsuit for an evening walk above the cliffs. It asks very little of you and gives a great deal back.
At JAM, the guernsey has always been central to what we do. It sits at the heart of our city-to-coast philosophy, because it makes that journey so naturally. The reimagined JAM guernsey has become a customer favourite over the year. It's one of those pieces people come back for season after season, and one we're always proud to bring back in a new form. This season, we're offering two versions, each with its own character.
The J Lobster Guernsey in Navy Cotton is our signature piece updated for Spring Summer '26. 100% cotton in a deep, clean navy, it carries a knitted 'J' logo on the left breast and a lobster motif on the lower right hip- a nod to the South West fishing communities we know and love, and a quiet celebration of the coastal economy that has shaped so much of what JAM is about. It's unisex, true to size, and machine washable. In short, it's made to be lived in.

The Cotton Guernsey in Blue Grey takes a quieter path. A beautifully muted, silvery coastal tone that sits somewhere between sea and sky, it's the kind of piece that earns compliments without trying for them. Classic guernsey construction, 100% cotton, and a colourway that works as naturally in the city as it does on the harbourside.

Both guernseys carry that same essential quality: they look better with wear. They soften slightly, take on the shape of their owner, and develop a character that no fast-fashion piece ever could. That's provenance you can feel.
One more thing worth knowing. Like everything we make at JAM, these guernseys are produced in limited numbers. When they're gone, they're gone, and that's entirely by design. It's part of our sustainable approach to fashion: make less, make it well, and never let good clothing become landfill. If one of these has caught your eye, don't wait.
In a wardrobe full of noise, the guernsey remains one of the quietest and most confident choices you can make. Some things don't need reinventing. They just need to be made well.
