Out of Focus | The Scarlet Hotel
With evenings getting darker, days getting colder and gift ideas for a certain holiday beginning to circulate the family group chat, it’s certain that Autumn has well and truly begun. It’s only natural we’re feeling a little blue. Nevertheless, we shouldn’t pigeonhole Autumn as a time to retreat to warm baths and infinite hot chocolates, but a time to get out and embrace the elements; which is exactly why we checked into the Scarlet Hotel…
Set upon North Cornwall’s rugged cliff tops, the Scarlet is a carefully curated hotel and spa designed to captivate the wealth of nature and wildlife that surrounds it. With a promise to deliver a sense of tranquillity, the adult-only hotel offers al-fresco hot tubs, sauna rooms, and holistic treatments. Prepare to switch off!
From the moment you set foot in the Scarlet, you are instantly met with an abundance of serenity. Floor-to-ceiling windows frame the Atlantic, as you take your fire-side seats to enjoy the view. The cosy living spaces present a perfect balance between the outside and in. Accompanying the views are an effortless collection of west-country-created artworks and an in-house restaurant featuring locally sourced ingredients, it’s clear that the Scarlet is passionate about showcasing its Cornish setting and surroundings.
If coastal scenery is what you’re after, then it’s certainly worth mentioning that every room at the Scarlet features a sea view with private outdoor space. All rooms are carefully designed with the surroundings in mind, featuring a deep coastal colour palette inspired by nearby wildflowers, rock pools and sea mosses, ensuring guests are amongst the waves and consumed by nature at all times. We found ourselves snoozing to the sounds of the wind and the waves… doors wide open.
It would be wrong not to mention the hotel's highly renowned eco-spa, which offers cliff-top hot tubs and sauna experiences as well as a unique set of treatments and well-being classes. From a meditation space and spa lounge to a steam room and sauna, not to mention both indoor and outdoor swimming pools, the Scarlet focuses on allowing their guests to really unwind, slow down and take a breath. We found the icy wild pool particularly breathtaking!
If you’re in need of some calm or simply a quiet coastal getaway, then we highly recommend the Scarlet for your next winter mini-break; no kids, no crowds, and an abundance of brain-warming sensations. Leave your phone at home, the views alone are enough.
